Did You Know
When I first watched "Did You Know" I thought it was going to be random facts about the course, but it ended up being nothing that I expected it to be. I was not expecting to find out that 25% of students K-12 are designated honor students. Also, that India has more K-12 honor students then anywhere in the United States. It becomes very scary to know that most people will have anywhere from 10-14 jobs before they turn the age of 38. In 2025 the number of English speaking Chinese is likely to exceed the number of native English speakers. This video becomes a very big reality check to a college junior knowing that it will be hard to have your number one job and live happily in this economy financially. We need to take everything we have and cherish it and use it to the best of our abilities.
Mr. Winkle Wakes
When I started watching Mr. Winkle Wakes, the beginning of the video struck me as what most people do when they first get out of the bed in the mornings, when they have a sense of confusion as to where they are or to even what time it is. Everything seems to be different the way we look, our vision, or even our thought patterns.
When he woke up it had been 100 years and there were computers with so many different styles of internet usage and social media networks. Although there were so many technological advances one thing still stayed the same there were still schools and students were still learning writing, reading, and arithmetic. The teaching above anything stayed the same because students were still learning the same things they have always been taught.
Ken Robinson
There were so many points in this video that were very well put together and well managed to show what happens as we get older as far as the skills we still use. He states that children are not afraid to be wrong and I totally agree with him, because they have no reason to be they are young and carefree and nothing to be scared about. I have a younger sister that is eleven years old and she is not afraid to voice her opinion about anything whether she is wrong or just sounds completely retarded. I love that as kids we never felt that we were wrong but as young adults we constantly question ourselves to make sure that we are right. Another thing he says is that we seem to lose some of our creativity, which sometimes can be a bad thing because I have always been told if you believe in something to go for it, and sometimes that stops people because they tend to take the easy way out of things and not really go for your dreams the way you should.
A Day Made of Glass 2
As I watched this video and slowly started to realize that everything in the future is going to be able to be done at the push of a button, no matter what though we will always learn in school with the teaching resources that our students deserve. As far as Mr. Winkle Wakes we will always have the ability to learn even with our technological advances. Like Ken Robinson says we need to keep these major points up in order to be successful, don't lose our creativity and don't be afraid to be wrong every now and then we are all human an we will be wrong. If we continue this way yes things are going to change because something new is always being established but we will always have our ability to learn and chase after the dreams we want to make a goal.
Hey Hailey, I loved your blog post! The bold headings made it easy to read and very easy to distinguish between different topics. I agreed with the statement you made that said "We need to take everything we have and cherish it and use it to the best of our abilities".I did however get a little confused towards the end when you said " As I watched this video and slowly started to realize that everything in the future is going to be able to be done at the push of a button, no matter what though we will always learn in school with the teaching resources that our students deserve." It seems like either a run on sentence or a sentence fragment. Overall your blog was EXCELLENT!
ReplyDeleteI think your overall evaluation is much too generous.
DeleteI am not sure that you understood that the comments about India and China are entirely the result of population size. You could say that the 25% of the population in India with the biggest ears outnumbers ALL of the people in the United States with two ears.
ReplyDeleteSo what is your take on what Mathew Needleman has to say. You do not tell us.
Do you agree with Sir Robinson that schools are killing creativity? And your reaction please.
"...no matter what though we will always learn in school with the teaching resources that our students deserve." I do not understand this. What are you trying to say?
Miss Ashley was much too generous in her evaluation.
